Donald Trump’s 2024 election campaign took a strategic and focused approach, emphasizing policies on the economy, national security, and traditional American values. After months of campaigning, Trump’s win over incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris highlighted the former president's effective outreach to swing state voters, who largely determined the election's outcome. 

Early in the evening, projections showed Trump securing North Carolina, a critical state, which set the momentum for further wins. A cornerstone of Trump's campaign was his promise to implement strict immigration policies, with plans for an extensive deportation operation, new bans on immigration from predominantly Muslim countries, and a focus on developing “freedom cities” on federal lands. 

This focus on border security and controlled immigration mirrored his original campaign promises from 2016. Trump's tough stance on immigration aimed to reassure Americans concerned about illegal immigration and perceived threats to national security. He argued that stricter immigration policies would not only protect American jobs but also enhance national security, a stance that resonated with conservative voters.

Foreign Policy Commitments: Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East

Trump’s 2024 campaign also centered on a hardline yet isolationist foreign policy, which attracted voters skeptical of the United States' extended international involvement. In the context of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Trump made the unprecedented claim that he could end the war before his inauguration. 

He suggested encouraging Russia to hold NATO accountable, particularly those members who don’t meet their financial commitments, and implied a conditional support approach. Although this stance stirred controversy, it resonated with Americans who questioned the benefits of prolonged U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts.

Trump’s views on the Israel-Hamas war aligned with a strong pro-Israel stance, but he also emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict quickly to prevent further global instability. He argued that Israel’s current offensive in Gaza was losing the public relations battle, affecting global perceptions. 

By advocating a swift conclusion to the conflict, Trump appealed to voters who support Israel but also seek a balanced U.S. approach in Middle Eastern affairs.
