Carlo Acutis: First Millennial to Be Granted Sainthood After Second Miracle Attributed to Him

In a historic and inspiring turn of events, Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager and digital evangelist, is set to become the first millennial to be granted sainthood.

On Thursday, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to Carlo, paving the way for his canonization.

God's Influencer

Informally dubbed "God's Influencer," Carlo Acutis was born in London on May 3, 1991, and later moved to Italy.

A prodigious computer whiz and avid gamer, Carlo utilized his technological prowess to spread the Catholic faith online.

Tragically, his life was cut short on October 12, 2006, when he succumbed to leukemia at the tender age of 15.

Despite his brief life, Carlo's impact has been profound. As his mother, Antonia Acutis, recounted, Carlo's dedication to his faith began early.

By the age of seven, he was attending daily Mass, a practice that reignited his mother's faith and led her back to the Church.

His efforts in creating websites and online content to share the Catholic message have left a lasting legacy, earning him the affectionate moniker of "influencer for God."

Path to Sainthood

Carlo Acutis' journey toward sainthood began with his beatification in 2020, a significant step in the canonization process.

The first miracle attributed to him involved the healing of a Brazilian child suffering from a congenital pancreatic disease.

This miraculous event set the stage for Carlo's elevation to Blessed status by Pope Francis.

To be canonized, a second miracle is required, and on Thursday, this requirement was met.

The second miracle attributed to Carlo involved a university student in Costa Rica who had suffered severe head trauma.

According to Vatican News, the student’s mother, Liliana, prayed to Blessed Carlo after her daughter, Valeria, had a bicycle accident that resulted in life-threatening injuries.

The doctors had given Valeria a very low chance of survival, but following Liliana's prayers and a visit to Carlo’s shrine in Assisi, Valeria began to show remarkable signs of recovery.

She started to breathe spontaneously, regained movement and speech, and a subsequent CT scan revealed that her brain hemorrhage had disappeared.

Impact and Legacy

Carlo Acutis’ life and miracles have had a resonant impact across the globe, bringing hope and inspiration to many.

His mother noted that numerous individuals have reported experiencing turning points in their lives and medical miracles after praying to Carlo.

Kathleen Sprows Cummings, a professor of history at the University of Notre Dame, highlighted the significance of Carlo's example in bridging the gap between the Church and young Catholics.

As a young person who embraced modern technology to share his faith, Carlo serves as a relatable and inspiring figure for today's youth.

Awaiting Canonization

While a date for Carlo's formal canonization ceremony has yet to be announced, the recognition of his second miracle cements his path to sainthood.

His remains, enshrined in the Italian town of Assisi alongside other relics, continue to be a focal point for pilgrims seeking hope and divine intervention.

Carlo Acutis’ story is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the potential for modern technology to spread spiritual messages.

As the first millennial to be granted sainthood, Carlo’s legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations to use their talents and skills in service of faith and humanity.
