Poland is Accusing German Police Over Dropping Afghan Migrants Across the Border

Tensions are rising between Poland and Germany after an incident involving German police dropping off an Afghan migrant family across the border into Poland. 

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced his intention to discuss the matter with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, describing the incident as "unacceptable" and demanding a thorough explanation.

The controversy erupted last week when a German police car was spotted in the Polish border town of Osinow Dolny, leaving behind a family of five migrants.

According to the state-run PAP news agency, German police spokesperson Bianca Jurgo stated that the Afghan family had legal papers for Poland. 

The adults had Polish refugee status certificates, and the children carried Polish identity cards. 

Jurgo explained that the German police returned the family to Poland to streamline bureaucratic procedures, as the family did not seek asylum in Germany.

Jurgo defended the actions of the German police, claiming that the officers aimed to avoid detaining the family for an "excessively long time" after the Polish side allegedly failed to respond to their situation. 

This rationale, however, has not appeased Polish officials, who see the incident as a violation of protocol and an act of disrespect towards Poland's sovereignty.

In the first five months of this year alone, Germany apprehended 7,371 foreigners attempting to cross the border from Poland illegally. 

Of these, 3,578 were returned to Poland, including 2,238 Ukrainian nationals.
