Video Shows 100 Feet Wide Sinkhole Swallowing Soccer Field in US
In a shocking event caught on surveillance camera, a massive sinkhole stretching 100 feet wide opened up in an Illinois park, swallowing a light pole and leaving a gaping, deep hole. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at Gordon Moore Park in the city of Alton, about 18 miles north of St. Louis, Missouri. The surveillance footage captures the terrifying moment as an area between two soccer and football fields collapses around a light pole, sending it tumbling into the sinkhole and releasing plumes of smoke. Alton Parks and Recreation Director Michael Haynes described the scene to NBC affiliate KSDK of St. Louis, saying, “It looks like something out of a movie, right?
