While the sight of lightning hitting skyscrapers might seem alarming, it is relatively common for these tall structures to be struck. 

The Empire State Building’s official website notes that its antenna is hit by lightning an average of 25 times per year. However, the intensity of Wednesday’s storm made this particular spectacle even more breathtaking.

The One World Trade Center, which had already been struck by lightning during a thunderstorm the previous Thursday, faced another powerful electric onslaught. 

This recent strike came just days after the previous one, underscoring the volatility of New York’s spring weather. 

According to Fox Weather, the earlier storm also resulted in a person being injured when lightning hit the building they were in.

These skyscrapers are equipped with sophisticated lightning rods and antennas designed to absorb and safely channel the electric current.
