Ambanis' Grand Cruise Celebration Angers Local Italians

The Ambani family, known for their opulent celebrations, recently hosted a pre-wedding cruise bash for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant that left a significant impact on the Italian locales of Portofino and Genoa. 

While the grandeur of the event was undeniable, the repercussions of the festivities have caused quite a stir among the local residents and businesses.

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding celebrations have already made headlines with their extravagant events in Jamnagar. 

However, their recent pre-wedding cruise bash, which traveled from Palermo to the south of France, including stops in Rome, Portofino, Genoa, and Cannes, seems to have taken the celebration to another level. 

Over 800 guests enjoyed a series of lavish parties and activities at each stop, with performances from global stars like the Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry. 

However, this extravaganza did not sit well with everyone, particularly the locals of Portofino and Genoa.

According to reports from The Independent, the Ambani celebrations led to significant disruptions in Portofino and Genoa. 

The cities were effectively shut down during the cruise’s stopovers, blocking the entire bay in Portofino and restricting access for locals and tourists. 

This sudden halt in daily activities has left many residents and business owners disgruntled. 

The inconvenience was not limited to physical obstruction; local newspapers reported complaints about the ill-mannered behavior of some guests, further aggravating the situation.

Social media platforms were flooded with expressions of displeasure from both locals and tourists who found their plans disrupted. 

Many shared their frustration over the loud celebrations and the perceived disregard for the local community’s peace and order. 

The sentiment was echoed in local newspapers, which highlighted the frustration over the “offensive and bad-mannered” behavior exhibited by some attendees.

Adding to the locals' ire was the Ambani family's approach to local businesses. 

According to The Times, restaurants in the affected cities were offered between €7,000 and €10,000 (₹6,35,754 – ₹9,08,220) to cater to the Ambani guests. 

The extravagant menu included dishes like focaccia, paneer tikka, and beetroot goat cheese kebab, showcasing the blend of Italian and Indian cuisines. 

However, this attempt to incorporate local businesses did little to mitigate the overall disruption caused by the event.

The four-day celebration, characterized by its fairy-tale-like festivities and the presence of Bollywood and cricketing celebrities, was undoubtedly a spectacular affair. 

Among the guests were renowned figures such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, M S Dhoni, Disha Patani, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Suhana Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Kiara Advani, and Sidharth Malhotra. 

Despite the star-studded guest list and the luxury on display, the event has sparked a conversation about the balance between opulence and respect for local customs and lifestyles.
