Ukrainians Treated Better Than Other Refugees: Council of Europe
In its annual report, the Council of Europe's anti-racism commission (ECRI) highlighted a disparity in the treatment of displaced people, with Ukrainians fleeing Russia's invasion receiving preferential treatment compared to refugees from other conflicts. The ECRI's findings call on European nations to extend equal support to all displaced individuals, regardless of their nationality, skin color, or religion. Since the onset of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, European countries have made "admirable efforts" to support Ukrainians, the report acknowledged. However, it also pointed out that the quality of aid provided has not been uniform across all ethnicities within the Ukrainian refugee population.
