Archaeologists Discover 4,000-Year-Old Rock Art Traces of Lost Civilization in Venezuela
In a remarkable archaeological discovery, researchers in Venezuela have uncovered 20 previously unknown rock art sites dating back thousands of years. Located within the expansive Canaima National Park in southeastern Venezuela, these sites provide intriguing insights into a "previously unknown" ancient culture, according to José Miguel Pérez-Gómez, an archaeologist leading the investigation from Simón Bolívar University in Caracas. The rock art, comprising both pictograms and petroglyphs, features vivid red designs depicting geometric motifs such as dots, X's, star-shaped patterns, and interconnected straight lines. Additionally, simple drawings of leaves and stick figures of people adorn the ancient canvases carved into the rock faces.
