In a tragic incident, a 70-year-old sadhu named Kamliwale Pagal Baba, who had been meditating for three days surrounded by several bonfires as part of a Panchagni 'tapasya' ritual, died on Sunday in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The intense heat and demanding conditions of the ritual ultimately proved fatal for the elderly ascetic. Kamliwale Pagal Baba, a resident of Amethi, undertook the Panchagni 'tapasya' in the village of Benipur under the Kaila Devi police station area. This ancient and rigorous ritual involves meditating amidst four surrounding fires with the sun considered as the fifth fire. The sadhu had commenced the tapasya on May 23, with plans to continue until May 27. He had received prior approval from the local administration to conduct this intense spiritual exercise.
