X-Press Feeders Launches Europe’s First Methanol Maritime Network

X-Press Feeders, an independent common carrier, has launched Europe’s pioneering green methanol-powered maritime network, setting a significant milestone in sustainable shipping practices.

Summarized Insights:

• Launch of Europe’s first methanol-powered maritime network.

• Introduction of green feeder routes in Northern Europe.

• Deployment of dual-fuel vessels for sustainable shipping.

• Use of ISCC-certified green methanol.

• Commitment to eco-friendly practices in maritime transport.

The initiative commenced on July 9, 2024, with the inauguration of scheduled feeder routes connecting key ports in Northern Europe to Finland and the Baltics.

This groundbreaking effort aims to provide European companies with a regular and sustainable shipping option, supporting their environmental goals.

Francis Goh, Chief Operating Officer of X-Press Feeders, highlighted the network's role in reducing environmental impact and meeting sustainability targets.

The launch is the result of collaboration between X-Press Feeders and strategic partners, including major ports such as Antwerp Bruges, HaminaKotka, Helsinki, Klaipeda, Riga, and Tallinn.

This partnership underscores a collective commitment to advancing eco-friendly shipping solutions.

The selection of Northern Europe for these routes reflects the region's receptiveness to sustainable shipping practices, according to Francis Goh.

The Port of Rotterdam was chosen as the network’s base due to its infrastructure readiness for green methanol refueling.

X-Press Feeders ensures the use of green methanol certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) in Europe.

This certification guarantees the fuel's sustainability and aligns with global environmental standards.

Coinciding with the launch, X-Press Feeders held a naming and christening ceremony for its first dual-fuel methanol-powered containership, the Eco Maestro, in Rotterdam.

This 1,260 TEU vessel, built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, represents the company’s commitment to integrating sustainable technologies in maritime operations.

The Eco Maestro, which completed its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Rotterdam, is the first of 14 dual-fuel vessels ordered by X-Press Feeders.

These vessels are slated for deployment primarily on European routes, contributing to reduced emissions and enhanced environmental stewardship in maritime transport.

Looking ahead, X-Press Feeders anticipates the delivery of its second dual-fuel vessel in the third quarter of 2024, further bolstering its green fleet capabilities.

The company remains dedicated to advancing sustainable shipping practices and fostering a greener future for the maritime industry.
