A viral video showing a safari park visitor throwing a plastic bag into a hippo's mouth has stirred controversy and anger among wildlife enthusiasts and social media users worldwide.

The incident took place at Safari Park in West Java, Indonesia, and has led to calls for strict action against the irresponsible individual involved.

In the viral footage, a hippo is seen at the edge of its enclosure in the water with its mouth open.

A person in a nearby car attempts to feed the hippo a carrot, but another passenger in the vehicle throws a plastic bag into the hippo's mouth.

The hippo begins chewing the plastic bag, causing immediate concern for its health and safety.

The video has garnered over two million views and 14,000 likes on X (formerly Twitter), with many users expressing their anger and disgust.

Comments ranged from calls for the perpetrator to be jailed to broader criticisms of human behavior towards animals.

One user remarked, "That's pissed me off more than any video I've seen today I know that much," while another said, "Straight to jail."

The general consensus was that such behavior is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to wildlife.

The management of the Indonesian Safari Park has been proactive in addressing the situation.

Alexander Zulkarnain, a spokesman for the park, told the Jakarta Globe that they have identified the license plate of the vehicle carrying the individual responsible.

The park management is now tracking down the male visitor and urging him to make a public apology to teach a lesson to other visitors about complying with the park's standard operating procedures.

According to park officials, wildlife laws protect all creatures at the sanctuary, and mistreating them could have legal repercussions.

The management has gathered information from guards and security cameras, which indicated that this particular visitor had been reprimanded several times for opening the window in the tiger area, further highlighting his disregard for park rules.

Fortunately, the hippo has been examined and is in good health, despite the irresponsible act.

However, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the need for stricter enforcement of rules in wildlife sanctuaries and the importance of educating the public on appropriate behavior around animals.

As this incident continues to attract attention, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in wildlife conservation and the critical role of public awareness and responsibility in protecting endangered species.

The calls for action against the perpetrator highlight the growing intolerance for behavior that endangers animals and the urgent need for stronger protective measures.
