Hezbollah Fires Over 200 Rockets Into Israel to Avenge Strike That Killed Senior Commander: Watch

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict along the Lebanon-Israel border, the Lebanese Hezbollah group launched over 200 rockets into Israel on Thursday.

This massive barrage was in retaliation for an Israeli strike that killed Mohammad Naameh Nasser, a senior Hezbollah commander, a day earlier.

Hezbollah's rocket assault targeted several military bases in Israel, marking one of the largest attacks in the protracted border skirmishes that have intensified in recent weeks.

The Israeli military reported that “numerous projectiles and suspicious aerial targets” had breached its territory, many of which were intercepted.

However, the barrage resulted in the death of one Israeli soldier.

Among the 200 projectiles launched by Hezbollah, over 20 drones were also sent into Israeli territory, including the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that some of these aerial threats were successfully intercepted.

In response to Hezbollah's massive assault, the IDF conducted retaliatory strikes on various towns in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military targeted Hezbollah’s “military structures” in the southern border towns of Ramyeh and Houla.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone strike in Houla resulted in at least one fatality.

Additionally, Israeli jets broke the sound barrier over Beirut and other areas in Lebanon, causing widespread alarm.

The recent escalation began after Israel acknowledged the killing of Mohammad Naameh Nasser, who was a significant figure in Hezbollah's operations.

Nasser led one of Hezbollah’s three regional divisions in southern Lebanon and had a history of involvement in conflicts in Syria and Iraq, as well as the 2006 war with Israel.

Hezbollah’s retaliation included the launch of Katyusha and Falaq rockets, along with explosive drones targeting multiple bases in northern Israel and the Golan Heights.

This strategic plateau was captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war and is recognized by the United States but not by the broader international community.

Hashem Safieddine, head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, vowed continued retaliation, promising to target new and unexpected sites.

At Nasser’s funeral, he stated, “The enemy sometimes acknowledges these hits and sometimes does not, but it is certain that there have been many casualties.”

The United States and France are actively working to prevent the skirmishes from spiraling into a full-blown war, fearing a regional spillover. U.S. diplomatic efforts have aimed for calm along the Lebanon-Israel border independently of the conflict in Gaza.

However, with ongoing calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, there is hope that peace in Gaza could lead to calm in Lebanon and northern Israel as well.

The conflict has already displaced tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border.

In northern Israel, the fighting has resulted in the deaths of 16 soldiers and 11 civilians. In Lebanon, over 450 individuals, mostly fighters but also dozens of civilians, have been killed.

Israel perceives Hezbollah as its most direct threat, with an estimated arsenal of 150,000 rockets and missiles, including precision-guided munitions.

The last major conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006 ended in a monthlong standoff that concluded without a decisive victory for either side.

Hezbollah’s latest attack underscores the fragile and volatile nature of the Lebanon-Israel border conflict.

With both sides demonstrating their military capabilities and readiness for further escalation, the international community remains on edge, hoping for a diplomatic resolution to prevent further bloodshed and instability in the region.
