Akshata Murty Trolled for Wearing £395 Dress at Rishi Sunak's Resignation Speech

In the wake of Rishi Sunak's resignation as UK Prime Minister, his wife, Akshata Murty, found herself at the center of an unexpected internet storm.

While the political ramifications of Sunak's departure and the Labour Party's sweeping victory dominated headlines, social media users zeroed in on Murty's attire, turning her £395 dress into a viral topic of discussion and trolling.

As Sunak delivered his final speech outside 10 Downing Street, Akshata Murty stood by his side in a blue, white, and red patterned dress.

The dress, which costs approximately Rs 42,000, quickly caught the attention of the public.

Online commentators were quick to poke fun at the dress's color scheme and pattern, with some even remarking on its price.

One particularly creative social media user quipped, "Here, Akshata Murty's dazzling camouflage breaks up her shape against the background, making it difficult for German U-boats to ascertain her range, speed, and direction."

Another joked, "Akshata Murty’s dress is a stereogram and if you squint for long enough you can see an airplane leaving for California."

The trolls didn't stop there. One person humorously suggested, "Akshata Murty's dress is also a QR code that gets you a Disneyland fast pass."

The playful jabs highlighted the internet's penchant for turning even the most mundane details into fodder for amusement.

Beyond the dress itself, sharp-eyed internet users also noticed the umbrella Murty held during the speech.

One commenter on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, "Rishi Sunak giving his resignation speech while his wife, Akshata Murty, loiters in the background with an umbrella is quite... er... odd?"

The focus on Murty's dress and the ensuing trolling underscore the public's fascination with the personal lives and fashion choices of political figures and their families.

Akshata Murty, who is the daughter of billionaire Narayana Murthy, founder of tech giant Infosys, and wife of Rishi Sunak, the richest person to have held the UK Prime Minister post, is no stranger to the spotlight.

The couple, who top the Sunday Times’ 2024 Rich List with an estimated fortune of £651 million ($815 million), are the wealthiest inhabitants of 10 Downing Street to date.

While the internet buzzed with humorous takes on her dress, the serious backdrop of Sunak's resignation and the Labour Party's electoral triumph continued to be the main event.

Nonetheless, the trolling episode serves as a reminder of how fashion and politics often intertwine, capturing the public's imagination in unexpected ways.
