Viral Video of Air Canada Plane Catching Fire Moments After Takeoff

A terrifying video has gone viral showing an Air Canada Boeing jet engulfed in flames shortly after takeoff, forcing it to turn back for an emergency landing. 

The dramatic incident occurred on Flight AC872, which had just departed from Toronto en route to Paris late Wednesday, with 389 passengers on board.

The video captures the harrowing moments as the plane ascends, with flames shooting from its tail end. 

A shocked passenger, recording the takeoff, can be heard exclaiming, "Holy crap!" as the fire becomes visible.

The source of the flames was an unspecified "engine issue" that occurred immediately after takeoff, according to an Air Canada statement.

"After the aircraft landed, it was inspected by airport response vehicles as per normal operating processes, and it taxied to the gate on its own," Air Canada reported.
