Viral Video of Air Canada Plane Catching Fire Moments After Takeoff

A terrifying video has gone viral showing an Air Canada Boeing jet engulfed in flames shortly after takeoff, forcing it to turn back for an emergency landing. 

The dramatic incident occurred on Flight AC872, which had just departed from Toronto en route to Paris late Wednesday, with 389 passengers on board.

The video captures the harrowing moments as the plane ascends, with flames shooting from its tail end. 

A shocked passenger, recording the takeoff, can be heard exclaiming, "Holy crap!" as the fire becomes visible. 

The panic escalates as the flames continue to erupt, with the person behind the camera shouting, "We’ve got an engine fire — holy s–t!"

The source of the flames was an unspecified "engine issue" that occurred immediately after takeoff, according to an Air Canada statement. 

The crew responded swiftly, deciding to turn the aircraft around for an emergency landing back at Toronto's airport.

Fire crews were ready on the ground as the plane landed safely, with no injuries reported among the passengers or crew. 

"After the aircraft landed, it was inspected by airport response vehicles as per normal operating processes, and it taxied to the gate on its own," Air Canada reported. 

This prompt and efficient response ensured that the situation was managed without further incident.

Passengers were understandably shaken but were rebooked onto another flight later that night. 

The affected plane has been taken out of service for a thorough evaluation by Air Canada's maintenance staff and engineers to determine the cause of the engine issue.

The video of the incident has rapidly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention and concern. 

Incidents like these, though rare, serve as a stark reminder of the importance of rigorous safety protocols and the quick thinking required by flight crews to ensure passenger safety.

Despite the scare, the professionalism displayed by the Air Canada crew and the emergency response team ensured that all passengers remained safe.
