Video Goes Viral as Giorgia Meloni Rolls Her Eyes at French President Macron after Clash at G7 Summit

Tensions between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron have erupted into a viral moment captured during their interaction at the G7 Summit.

The incident, which has sparked widespread discussion on social media, centers around a disagreement over the inclusion of language pertaining to abortion rights in the summit's final communique.

According to reports, the G7 leaders' draft communique did not directly reference abortion rights, prompting a diplomatic standoff between Rome and Paris.

Italy, under Meloni's leadership and holding the G7 presidency, resisted pressure from France to include explicit support for abortion rights.

This disagreement underscored broader tensions over LGBTQ rights, with accusations of watering down commitments compared to previous summits.

The viral video shows Meloni seemingly rolling her eyes at Macron, followed by a handshake that appeared less than cordial.

The gesture has drawn comparisons to other memorable diplomatic exchanges, such as Angela Merkel's eye-roll at Vladimir Putin in 2017, which also became a social media sensation.

The draft statement affirmed commitments to universal access to health services for women but omitted specific language endorsing "access to safe and legal abortion and post-abortion care."

Italy justified this omission by referencing previous commitments made at the Hiroshima summit in Japan.

Meloni accused Macron of using the abortion issue for political gain ahead of France's national elections, highlighting the sensitivity and complexity of international relations intertwined with domestic politics.

As the video continues to circulate online, it serves as a reminder of how diplomatic gestures and disagreements at high-profile summits can quickly capture public attention and shape perceptions of global leadership dynamics.

The incident between Meloni and Macron underscores ongoing debates over human rights, gender equality, and the role of international commitments in shaping policy agendas worldwide.
