The G7 Does Not Represent the World: China's Response to Recent G7 Summit in Italy

China's reaction to the recent G7 summit in Italy has been robust and critical, highlighting what it perceives as significant shortcomings in the group's global representation and policy approach.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian strongly criticized the G7 leaders' communique, accusing them of vilifying and attacking China with baseless accusations lacking factual, legal, or moral basis.

Jian emphasized that such actions by the G7 reflect an arrogant and biased stance, which China views as detrimental to international cooperation and stability.

Central to China's critique is the demographic and economic argument against the G7's legitimacy as a global decision-making body.

Jian pointed out that the G7 member countries, representing only 10% of the world's population, do not authentically represent the diverse global community.

Moreover, despite their economic stature, Jian asserted that these countries contribute less to global economic growth compared to China, challenging the G7's claim to speak on behalf of the world's economic interests.

Beyond demographic and economic critiques, China accused the G7 of veering from its original purpose of fostering global economic stability and becoming increasingly politicized.

Jian argued that the G7 now serves as a tool to perpetuate US and Western supremacy, prioritizing their interests over international law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

This perspective underscores China's broader skepticism towards Western-led international institutions and their influence on shaping global norms and policies.

In response to the G7's emphasis on issues like global peace and security, Jian criticized the group for exacerbating tensions through military maneuvers and regional interventions.

He argued that while the G7 claims to safeguard world peace, its actions often lead to bloc confrontation and undermine international order, reflecting divergent approaches to maintaining global stability.

Regarding economic matters, China rebuffed the G7's allegations of Chinese overcapacity as unjustified and motivated by protectionism.

Jian emphasized that such accusations not only lack factual basis but also hinder global economic cooperation and climate initiatives.

China views these claims as attempts to restrict its economic growth and integration into the global market, reflecting ongoing economic tensions between China and Western economies.

Despite these criticisms, the G7 has reiterated its commitment to engage with China on areas of common interest, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue and cooperation.

The G7 leaders have emphasized the need for China to play a responsible role in promoting international peace, addressing global challenges such as climate change, and supporting global health security and economic stability.

This stance underscores ongoing efforts to navigate differences and pursue cooperation amidst geopolitical tensions and divergent global perspectives.
