In a remarkable display of military innovation, Russia is testing a new heavy transport drone capable of carrying an armed soldier, unveiling a new chapter in modern warfare. 

The Defense Ministry released footage on Monday showcasing the Perun drone in action, a development that could revolutionize the battlefield with its versatility and strength.

Named after the Slavic god of thunder, the Perun drone is designed to carry a 200kg payload, easily accommodating an armed soldier. 

The drone, resembling a helicopter in its operation, was shown transporting a soldier on a wire, highlighting its potential for diverse military applications.

The Perun drone is equipped with domestically-produced software, ensuring that Russia maintains control over its technological capabilities. 

In addition to carrying personnel, a variant of the drone was shown with an anti-tank missile mounted on top, demonstrating its adaptability for different combat roles.

The primary envisioned uses for the Perun drone include medical evacuations and the transportation of small commando teams for surprise attacks. 

This capability could provide a strategic advantage in deploying forces quickly and covertly in hostile environments. 

The drone's versatility extends to potential weaponization; tests are planned for mounting a machine gun and an air-launched rocket, suggesting the Perun could serve as a formidable weapons platform.
