People Stuck Upside Down for Half an Hour at Amusement Park in Portland: Scary Video got Viral

In a heart-pounding incident at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, nearly 30 riders found themselves suspended upside down for an agonizing half-hour on the "AtmosFEAR" ride. 

The attraction, known for its thrilling 360-degree spins, malfunctioned at its apex, leaving riders stranded until emergency responders could safely lower them.

The ordeal began when the ride halted unexpectedly during its routine operation on the opening day of the 2024 season. 

According to reports, Portland Fire & Rescue swiftly responded to the scene, reassuring the public that while the situation was tense, there were no immediate signs of injuries among the trapped riders.

Jordan Harding, 18, one of the riders on the ill-fated journey, described the initial panic and subsequent fear as minutes ticked by. 

"At first I was like freaking out, but then I was like it’s fine. I thought we’d come down in 10 seconds, 15 seconds, whatever," she recounted. 

"But 20 seconds turned into three minutes, then riders started to panic, scream, and call for help."

As time stretched on, thoughts of loved ones and life milestones filled their minds. "What I was thinking is just like I’m never going to see my dad again. 

I’m never going to see my brother again," Jordan reflected, capturing the raw emotions of the ordeal. 

"I’m 18, I have so much life left to live. Like, I’m going to die like this, are you joking?"

Portland Fire & Rescue worked tirelessly with park engineers to manually lower the ride, eventually succeeding at 3:24 p.m., safely evacuating all riders. 

Miraculously, only one individual required hospital evaluation, while the others were released after medical assessments on-site.

The incident has prompted Oaks Amusement Park to close the AtmosFEAR ride indefinitely, pending a thorough investigation in collaboration with manufacturers and state inspectors to determine the cause of the malfunction.

In the aftermath, reactions from those involved ranged from tears of relief to a newfound appreciation for life itself. 

"I was crying, not of joy, not of anything, I was just crying. I was more happy, I was alive," shared one of the relieved riders.

While such incidents are rare, they serve as a reminder of the importance of rigorous safety protocols in amusement parks. 

As visitors await further updates from Oaks Park, the community remains thankful for the swift response of emergency services and the safe resolution of a potentially catastrophic situation.
