Donald Trump Proposed Peace Plan to End War in Ukraine: Experts Call It 'Incompatible'

Former President Donald Trump has frequently claimed he could end the war in Ukraine within a day if re-elected, yet his proposed peace plan has been heavily criticized by experts.

The plan, developed by advisers Fred Fleitz and retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, involves the U.S. providing increased military support to Ukraine only if it agrees to peace talks, while warning Moscow that refusal to negotiate would lead to greater American support for Ukraine.

Critics, such as Gordon "Skip" Davis from the Center for European Policy Analysis, argue that the plan is unbalanced and favors Russia, ultimately rewarding aggression and violence.

Davis noted that Western support is crucial yet vulnerable for Ukraine, and that the proposed plan lacks the necessary leverage against Russia.

Many experts believe that this approach is unlikely to be effective, as it seems to place disproportionate pressure on Ukraine while offering concessions to Russia.

The idea of conditioning military support on Ukraine's willingness to negotiate could weaken Kyiv's position and undermine its efforts to defend its sovereignty.

On the other hand, the threat of increased support for Ukraine if Moscow refuses to negotiate may not be sufficient to compel Russia to come to the table, given its strategic interests and current gains on the ground.

The plan has also been criticized for its potential to set a dangerous precedent.

Rewarding Russian aggression with a ceasefire based on current battle lines could embolden Moscow and other aggressors, signaling that territorial gains achieved through force can be legitimized through negotiations.

This could destabilize the region further and lead to more conflicts in the future.

Trump's assertion that he could end the war in a day, without providing specific details, has been met with skepticism.

The complexity of the conflict, with deep-seated historical, political, and territorial issues, suggests that a quick resolution is unlikely.

Effective peace efforts would require careful negotiation, consideration of the interests of all parties involved, and a balanced approach that does not disproportionately favor one side over the other.

In conclusion, while Trump's proposed peace plan aims to bring an end to the war in Ukraine, experts argue that it is unrealistic and unbalanced.

The plan's conditional support for Ukraine and the proposed ceasefire based on current battle lines could undermine Kyiv's position and reward Russian aggression.

A more nuanced and balanced approach would be necessary to achieve a sustainable and just resolution to the conflict.
