41 Airports, 50 Hospitals, and BMC Headquarters in Mumbai Receive Bomb Threats via Email

In a shocking sequence of events, Mumbai faced a series of bomb threats targeting key infrastructure across the city. 

Over 41 airports and more than 50 hospitals, including prominent names like Jaslok Hospital, Raheja Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital, Kohinoor Hospital, KEM Hospital, JJ Hospital, and St. George Hospital, received these alarming threats. 

The emails, sent via a VPN network, have left authorities scrambling to ascertain the sender's identity and motive.

The Threat Emails

The bomb threats, conveyed through emails, warned of imminent explosions at these vital locations. 

According to Mumbai Police, the emails were sent from the address exhumedyou888@gmail.com, making it challenging to trace the origin due to the use of a VPN. 

The contents of the emails were ominous, stating, 

"Hello, there are explosives hidden in the Airport. The bombs will soon explode. You will all die." 

This sparked immediate responses from security agencies across the affected sites.

Response and Investigation

Upon receiving the threats, police and paramilitary forces quickly mobilized to secure the premises and ensure public safety. 

Anti-sabotage measures were promptly implemented, with detailed sweeps conducted at each location. 

Despite the gravity of the threats, initial inspections found no suspicious items, and normal operations continued where possible. 

Mumbai Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, particularly focusing on the cyber aspects to trace the source of the VPN-protected emails.

Impact on Mumbai's Hospitals

The threats extended beyond airports, impacting healthcare facilities at a critical time. 

More than 50 hospitals were on high alert, with additional security deployed to protect patients, staff, and visitors. 

This added strain to the already stretched medical infrastructure, highlighting the malicious intent behind such threats. 

While no explosives were found, the psychological impact on hospital staff and patients cannot be understated.

BMC Headquarters Targeted

The bomb threats also targeted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, a significant administrative hub in Mumbai. 

Upon receiving the threatening email, police swiftly conducted a thorough investigation of the premises but found no suspicious items. 

Mumbai Police have assured the public that further investigations are underway to identify the perpetrator and prevent any such future threats.

Nationwide Airport Hoaxes

These threats were not isolated to Mumbai alone. 

Airports across the country, including Chennai, Patna, Nagpur, Jaipur, Vadodara, Coimbatore, and Jabalpur, also received similar threatening emails. 

This led to widespread anti-sabotage operations, though all threats were eventually deemed hoaxes. 

Authorities worked diligently to minimize disruption to passenger movements and maintain safety.

Previous Incidents and Ongoing Efforts

This spate of threats is not the first of its kind. Earlier incidents in April saw several airports receive similar hoax emails, prompting increased vigilance. 

Indian cyber security agencies are intensifying efforts to trace these emails, believed to be sent from abroad, to prevent recurrence and enhance security measures. 

The recent wave of bomb threats serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by critical infrastructure in Mumbai and across India. 

While the immediate danger was averted, the psychological and operational impacts are significant. 

Authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and reinforcing security protocols to safeguard against such threats in the future.
