"I haven’t been to a nail salon for about 22 years—they don’t want to deal with them—so my grandchildren take care of them," Diana explains. 

The maintenance of such lengthy nails is no small feat; it involves using a Dremel woodworking tool and can take up to 10 hours per nail. 

This intricate process is repeated every four to five years, consuming between 15 and 20 bottles of nail polish.

Initially, Diana’s children were embarrassed and pleaded with her to cut the nails.

Rania, one of Diana's daughters, reflected, “When she told us the back story, it kind of changed my feelings towards it. 

Because just as much as she missed my sister, I missed her too. So, if that’s her way of holding on to her, then I accept."
