Taiwan is Ours, US Has No Right to Point Fingers at Us: China

The tension between the United States and China over Taiwan has reached new heights, with Beijing issuing stern warnings to Washington.

Following recent military drills around Taiwan, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin declared unequivocally that any efforts toward Taiwan's independence are a “dead end” and will inevitably “backfire.”

This statement came in response to a US official’s call for China to exercise restraint in the region.

China’s Firm Stance on Taiwan

China has long maintained that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory.

This position is deeply rooted in historical claims and is considered a non-negotiable aspect of China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Wang Wenbin, “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. This is both a fact based on history and the true status quo, and will not change in the future.”

The recent intensification of military drills around Taiwan is a clear signal from Beijing.

On Thursday, the Chinese military conducted extensive exercises, involving fighter jets, destroyers, frigates, and missile speedboats, simulating attacks on high-value military targets.

These drills, referred to as “punishment” for separatist acts, come shortly after Lai Ching-te was sworn in as Taiwan’s president.

US Involvement and Beijing’s Response

The United States has been a long-standing supporter of Taiwan, providing it with military aid and political support.

This support has been a significant point of contention between the US and China. Beijing argues that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan is attempting to leverage US support to push for independence, thereby destabilizing the region.

Wang Wenbin emphasized, “The root cause for the tensions across the Taiwan Strait is the DPP authorities' attempt to rely on the US to seek independence.”

China asserts that the US should adhere to the One China principle, which acknowledges that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of it.

Beijing warns that any deviation from this principle or support for Taiwan’s independence will lead to severe repercussions.

“Nothing will deter us from defending our sovereignty and territorial integrity, and we will do anything necessary to thwart any move aimed at ‘Taiwan independence’,” Wenbin stated.

The Global Implications

The cross-strait situation is not just a regional issue; it has significant global implications.

The US-China relationship is already strained due to various geopolitical and economic factors. Taiwan has become another critical flashpoint. China’s military drills are a demonstration of its resolve and capabilities, serving as a warning to Taiwan and its supporters.

Wang Wenbin’s statements reflect China’s unyielding stance on Taiwan.

The message is clear: China considers any effort towards Taiwan's independence as a direct challenge to its sovereignty and will respond with force if necessary.

The warning to the US is equally explicit: interference in the Taiwan issue will lead to a “backfire.”

The future of Taiwan remains uncertain, caught between the ambitions of its local government and the geopolitical tug-of-war between China and the United States.

Beijing's recent military actions and stern warnings highlight the seriousness with which it views any threats to its territorial integrity.

As the situation evolves, it is crucial for global powers to navigate this delicate issue with care, recognizing the potential for significant conflict.

In the eyes of Beijing, Taiwan is an integral part of China, and any move towards its independence is not only unacceptable but will be met with unwavering resistance.

The United States, therefore, is urged to tread carefully, as its actions could significantly impact the stability of the region and beyond.
